| Frequently Asked Questions: |
| Q |
What are the different types
of wicks used to make candles instead of lead? |
A
|
Truly Scented candles only uses: Paper core-these
are cotton wicks with a core made of a stiff paper, like
cardboard and Coreless Cotton-these are completely cotton
braided wicks and contain no core material. |
| Q |
Why do candle wicks sometimes become mushroom
shaped? |
A
|
When the candle is consuming wax more quickly than
the flame can burn completely, carbon deposits may develop. This
will most likely occur when the wick needs to be trimmed. Blow
out the flame, trim off the wick and carbon deposit and relight.
Do not allow the wick trimmings or other materials to fall into
the wax pool. |
| Q |
Why does it say to discontinue using the candle
when a half inch of wax remains? |
A
|
The glass can get hot on the bottom as the flame
nears the base of the jar and most of the wax has been consumed.
When this instruction is followed the glass will not get to hot. |
| Q |
What is the best way to burn my pillar candle? |
A
|
Candles have memory so the first time you burn a
candle can determine how it burns thereafter. Before lighting,
trim the candle wick to a 1/4". After lighting the candle,
allow the wax to pool and form a well within a 1/2 to 1/4 inch
(depending on candle size) of the candle edge. This will usually
take about 2-3 hours. As the candle burns, center the wick in
the wax pool so the candle will burn straight down. Extinguish
the flame and allow the candle to cool before relighting. Always
trim the wick to 1/4" before relighting and rotate the
candle 1/4 turn before each lighting for a more even burning.
Note: If you only burn a candle for a few minutes at a time, the
candle will slowly drill a small hole in the candle core and
burn very poorly. |
